SCORING A GOAL FOR PEACE IN CHIAPAS

Despite Mexico’s recent advances, the state of Chiapas remains desperately poor. Indigenous people, many of whom were displaced during two decades of political violence, are the most destitute and marginalized population in the country. The MDG-F worked with indigenous communities to reduce inequalities and promote peaceful coexistence and community dialogue, focusing particularly on empowering women, children and youth. These girls are the winners of one the first women’s soccer tournament in San Jose Bascán, in the municipality of Salto de Agua.
