REDUCING VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN IN COLOMBIA

The MDG-F’s “Embera Wera” initiative worked with 25,000 women from the Embera Chami, one of 30 indigenous groups in Colombia in danger of extinction. The project campaigned to end the practice of female genital mutilation and to increase women’s participation in decision-making processes. 700 women from the community took part in a forum to discuss their rights and the incidence of gender-based violence, which affects nearly 90 % of women in the programme area.
