REAPING PEACE DIVIDENDS IN MEXICO

San Jose el Bascan was founded in Mexico’s southern state of Chiapas by 20 families displaced from a neighboring community during the conflict between the government and the Zapatist revolutionary movement. After 17 years of tensions and strife over land ownership, villagers there have been able to work out an accord, leave behind their divisions and begin to live in peace, thanks to a dialogue process spearheaded by an MDG-F joint programme.
