FOOD SECURITY FOR BRAZIL’S INDIANS

Four out of ten Brazilian Indians live in extreme poverty, and more than half of indigenous children are anemic. The MDG-F worked in two regions to improve the food security and nutritional status of indigenous people, like this mother from the Kaiowá ethnic minority taking her children to a local clinic in the Indigenous Reserve of Dourados, in Mato Grosso do Sul. Health, nutrition, agriculture and income-generating activities helped reduce the incidence of under-weight in children from both project areas.
