ETHIOPIA: LEAVE NO WOMAN BEHIND

The MDG-F’s Leave No Woman Behind programme was designed to empower girls like these in Ethiopia’s Tigray and Amhara regions, where only a third of adult women can read and write, and few have access to adequate health, social and financial services. The programme targetted 100,000 adolescent girls and women with literacy training, business skills and access to credit, as well as HIV/AIDS and reproductive health education. In the project areas, school drop-out rates fell by 70 % and the number of girls marrying before the age of 18 dropped by 90% between 2009 and 2012.
