TRADITIONS BOOST LIVELIHOODS IN MOZAMBIQUE

Women from Mozambique performing a traditional dance using facemasks made with Mussiro, a paste produced from tree roots and used both for its medicinal and beautifying properties as well as in rituals such as coming of age ceremonies and funerals. The MDG-F helped to establish community-based organizations that process and package Mussiro powder for sale to local and tourist markets as a way to increase incomes while protecting Mozambique’s unique cultural heritage and environment.
